Tradition : THE WATER COURT
Every Thursday - Visit Valencia Cathedral on any Thursday at 12:00 (except public holidays) to witness a centuries-old tradition which takes place at the Door of the Apostles: the Water Court. Designated as an intangible cultural heritage asset in 2009, the Water Court of the plain of Valencia is the oldest law court in Europe. The session consists of eight democratically elected farmers (who still dress in the black smocks traditionally worn by Valencia's fruit and vegetable growers), who sit in a circle (on 17th century chairs) and impart justice with a curious public audience looking on. Their decisions are binding, and must be complied with. Free
